The Italian Coast Guard selects Zipwake

After a thorough selection process, Zipwake, the Swedish producer of interceptor trim systems, has been awarded a prestigious assignment from the Italian Coast Guard (Guardia Costiera).

The 800 “Valentijn” class of SAR patrol boats from the Italian Coast Guard are undergoing a comprehensive technological life extension program, carried out by the Italian shipyard CODECASADUE based in Viareggio (Tuscany). The purpose is to extend the patrol boats’ operational service for the next 10-12 years. As part of this upgrade, a stabilization system based on interceptors from the Swedish company ZIPWAKE is being installed on each of the 12 boats.

“We are very pleased and proud that the Italian Coast Guard has selected Zipwake and also our technology to further improve their boats’ mission capabilities,” said Jörgen Holmgren, CEO of Zipwake.

The system includes three interceptors (one central V-shape and two lateral), which greatly improve transverse stabilization and longitudinal trim during navigation, particularly at low speeds.

“We are confident that the new stabilization system will significantly enhance our ability to use these boats and conduct search and rescue missions to save lives at sea,” says Commander Massimo Kothmeir, at Guardia Costiera.

Additionally, an automatic interceptor management system is being installed to work in combination with the autopilot, providing the crew with a higher level of comfort during operations.
