Surtees Boats and Their Passion for Perfecting the Ride

Surtees Boats was born in 1993 in New Zealand when Neil Surtees decided to design and build himself an aluminium boat to use for fishing off the rough coast of Whakatane. Something that could cross the gnarly bar and still give him a soft ride in chop, as well as stability at rest.

When local people saw the finished product and the way it performed, they were so impressed they asked Neil to build a boat for them.

As the fishing public saw more and more boats the business continued to grow and now – 30 years later – anglers from all over the world recognize the high quality, stability, safety, and practical features of Surtees boats.

In New Zealand, we have a big passion for fishing – either in coastal waters or the open sea. Surtees boats have a close relationship with both casual recreational fishers as well as game fishing enthusiasts. Surtees Boats are a unique design with anti-roll ballast systems in all models, and a super-smooth riding hull that makes it a comfortable ride in all conditions as the New Zealand weather is never perfect.

Surtees have traditionally been using conventional trim tabs but recently decided to offer Zipwake as an alternative upgrade. This was driven from owner’s requirements where they preferred not to alter their pitch/roll with conventional trim tabs, but rather the automatic adjustments from the Zipwake KB300S System compliments the already excellent Surtees Ride.

Surtees offers models from 4.9m to 8m, and their 610 model to the 800 models has the transom space to accommodate the KB300S System. Due to Surtees’ superior hull performance, 300mm interceptors is all is required to achieve the perfect ride.
